Milk Peda and Gujiya are similar in taste. Prasad (religious offering) in temples in Kolkata is often Peda. Thus to me, Peda and Prasad are almost synonyms. Gujiya, on the other hand, is a sweet that most popular among kids. That may be because of its ring shape or maybe for the taste. Back in my childhood days, Gujiya could be found in any sweet store in Kolkata but these days it is hard to find. The reason may be there are many improvised versions of these traditional sweets are out now, overshadowing the original ones.
